I would just like to bring to everyone’s attention that this situation regarding the MDEQ overlooking important potential environmental hazards is a complete disservice to the general public. It is crucial to keep in mind that what affects one area may in fact affect another region as well. But perhaps corporate executives and political officials believe that the chances of birth defects, diseases and environmental damage caused by Kennecott is “too low” to cause concern among themselves. I particularly find this disturbing. The political behavior that has been taking place between Kennecott and the Michigan government involves the concealing of important information from the public; thus not allowing the TRUTH from reaching the public. What a shame that politics has become more of a “strategy game” rather than a “reality game.” I am a native resident of Michigan’s beautiful upper penninsula, and I despise the notion of a mine being erected simply for immediate gratification, especially in a headwaters region which flows into the GREAT LAKES. It would be different if the mine were secluded from a water source. And no, this would NOT be a major boost to Michigan’s struggling economy. I urge all who read this message to seriously reflect on what I have just said, and I would also like to express my thanks to all of you who have the wisdom to understand the truth of this situation.
