Emission of dust addressed

By JOHN PEPIN, Journal Munising Bureau

MARQUETTE — Kennecott Eagle Minerals Company officials said Thursday the company anticipates installing air filtration equipment to reduce emissions at its proposed nickel and copper mine on the Yellow Dog Plains by 85 percent.

The company would invest more than a half-million dollars on the equipment to address potential dust emissions from the underground mine’s ventilation system.

The announcement came in the wake of a state Department of Environmental Quality public comment period on the proposed approval of the Kennecott mine closing Wednesday.
