Thank you for posting this recent update on the Kennecott Eagle Minerals Company Proposal–and also the relatively recent information concerning the Michigan DEQ’s supression of the more scientific and independent report by David Sainsbury, a qualified consultant who the DEQ’s contractor had actually hired!
His (Sainsbury’s) 24-page report, submitted in 2006, obviously did not “meet the needs” of some individuals at the DEQ (who are actually paid by us, the taxpayers) to protect us and our environment. This problem is beyond only “benign neglect” by the Michigan DEQ in this important matter. It was very fortunate that the DEQ’s Director Steve Chester took action to investigate this problem, as the DEQ’s decision can possibly “green light” this ridiculous mining proposal and project. There are many other important negative aspects to this projected mining operation and its aftermath–and it was good to see them listed in NWF’s six page report of April 10, 2007.
Again, thank you for this most useful update and your/our continued efforts to bring more facts to the public and hopefully prevent this potential disaster on the Yellow Dog Plains and its important watershed, public roads, flora and fauna!
